Dr Nashwa Ismail
Research Associate-University of Bath-Department of Education
I completed my MSc and PhD in Education at University of Southampton. My research interest is in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). My previous work experience is teaching IT, as Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT). This nature of job encouraged me to research in depth about TEL in sense of how tutors can help their students' motivation and engagement in their learning using technology. That's why my Master thesis focused on students' interaction and my PhD thesis focused on student-centred learning in the online learning. During my current job, as research associate in a project focuses on school turnaround in Malaysia and Indonesia, I am thriving my skills in TEL research that is based on cooperation of geographically and culturally diverse team.
Summary of my research
- Tutors' perceptions of student-centred learning in the online environment. Thesis (Doctor of Philosophy -PhD)
- Interaction: a Key Component to Successful Online Learning: An Investigation of Interaction and a Course of Online Learning. Thesis (Master- MSC)
- Analysing qualitative data using facial expressions in an educational scenario

Motivation for this workshop
As an early career researcher, a shared research interest and international research collaboration can help to build trust and relationships between people from very different backgrounds and cultures. Therefore, I am fully enthusiastic for more research and building links for future collaboration and enhancing the researchers’ career opportunities.
Another reason for taking part in this workshop that by attending this event I would have the opportunity to go further into preparing project (s) proposal with group of researchers, taking the project research into practice and conducting the whole research with team till dissemination.

Future research intentions
As I believe that International research collaboration is essential for the global knowledge economy. I expect by the end of this event, that I can end up as an active member in a group of researchers that are willing to participate a research with a significant impact on TEL. I will try , as possible, within the event to communicate and collaborate with peers and achieve the following:
- Outline a prospective collaborative research (es)
- Discussing different aspects of TEL in academia across the two countries: UK and Thailand
- Trying to discuss different ideas of prospective research design
- Setup communication time-frame to take the research into practice after the event
