Summary of my research:
I am interested in how technology can be leveraged to support and improve outcomes for students and how technology can be used so that practitioners can engage with research and the research community so that they can improve their current practices. I am also interested in how students use the Internet to support their learning and how the resources that they do use can be improved. Furthermore how can the usage data from a range of social and educational platforms that may be used be aggregated so that their engagement across this range of platforms can be explored. I am also interested in how theories of learning relate to students' and practitioners' use of technology and their outcomes.
My work involves supporting the MESH Guides project as the lead educational developer on the project. This work is a further development from my PhD study and is an international research collaboration which aims to improve the link between research evidence and practice in the field of education. A number of funding bids and collaborative papers are currently in development based on this work.
More recently I have been working in Outdoor Education and I am interested in the potential of mobile technologies for improving teaching and learning in the more informal outdoor environments. These environments may include how mobile technology can be used in the coaching of elite performance athletes in the area of paddle sports but also how it could be used in areas such as Forest School with primary children.
I am also interested in how paradigms and theoretical perspectives can be used to inform my future research in the field of TEL and Mobile Learning. I would also like to explore how the impact of TEL and ML research can be evaluated with colleagues.

Motivation for this workshop
My motivation to attend this workshop is based around the three following areas:
Firstly, to improve my knowledge of and engagement with, theoretical perspectives which can be used for further research in the field of Technology Enhanced Learning and Mobile Learning. Hence the chance not only to be informed of other perspectives and theoretical frameworks, but also to discuss these with other active researchers in the field would be of great personal benefit.
Secondly, I would like to develop my skills in applying for and being successful in gaining research funding for future research projects. Thus I need to improve the process of developing good collaborative TEL and mobile learning research projects, and aligning these projects with funder's criteria and translating them into successful bids for funding.
Thirdly, I need to develop my own professional network of colleagues. This includes both active TEL and Mobile Learning researchers based in the UK and internationally. This third motivation will also help to support the previous two above.
